Nearly 110 students at SUNY Oswego, including local residents, received awards at the college's spring Honors Convocation.

Marissa R. Bacon of Main Street in Hermon, a junior studying childhood education and women's studies, received the Hazel Hewitt Scholarship Fund. She is the daughter of Richard and Nicole Ward of Hermon. She is a member of the education club, Programmy Award winner and resident mentor in Johnson Hall.

Vanessa A. Rappleyea of P. O. Box 5054 in Massena, a junior studying global and international studies, received the Outstanding Achievement Award in Global Studies. She is the daughter of Charles and Carrie Otto. She is a member of Alpha Phi Omega and a Gospel Choir E-board member. Her future plans are to teach English as second language or attend graduate school.

The formal ceremony, complete with a procession of faculty and college officers in full academic regalia, is sponsored each spring at Oswego by Vega, the women's honor society. The audience included faculty, staff, students and students' family members.
