Helen Schneider of Hammond recently received the John L. Buono Award for Civic Engagement at Hudson Valley Community College.
The award is given to a student for “outstanding commitment to community service through volunteer work,” according to a press release.
Schneider is studying in the humanities and social science program.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 degree and certificate programs in four schools.
One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of nearly 12,000 students.
Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
