POTSDAM -- Clarkson University President Tony Collins has announced that Mary E. Graham has been promoted from associate professor to full professor of consumer and organizational studies in the School of Business. Promotion to professor is considered to be virtually the highest honor that a university can bestow upon its faculty.

Graham has been a member of the Organizational Studies faculty since 2000. From 2000-2007, she was the Edgar A. Newell II Scholar of Management. She was promoted to associate professor in 2003. Graham was the first woman to be tenured and is first to be promoted to full professor in the Clarkson University School of Business.

Graham teaches courses on human resource management (HRM) and organizational behavior to undergraduate, MBA, master of science and executive-level students, in traditional, hybrid and distance formats. She has chaired the committees of seven master of science in management graduates and she has served on two Ph.D. committees.

Graham conducts research on gender-related employment disparities, gender composition and organizational outcomes, organizational reputation, and human resource management and the supply chain.

She has numerous publications and book chapters, including in the journals of the American Economic Review Papers and Proceedings, Applied Economics Letters, Human Resource Management, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Research Methods, Organization Science, and International Journal of Operations and Production Management.

Graham served as an associate editor of Human Resource Management journal from 2004-2009, and she guest co-edited a special issue in this journal on the topic of HRM and the supply chain in 2010. She has served as an associate editor for Human Resource Management Review since 2011.

Graham received the Outstanding New Teacher Award in 2002, the John W. Graham Research Award in 2003, and the Clarkson University Phalanx commendable service award in 2011. Externally, she received an outstanding reviewer award from the Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division of the Academy of Management. She currently serves on the leadership team of the WAGE Project / AAUW, a national program that trains students in salary negotiation.

Graham has served in a number of leadership positions at Clarkson, including terms as chair of the undergraduate policy committee, the graduate policy committee, and the strategic hiring committee in the School of Business. She has served as advisor for the Society for Human Resource Management student chapter and for the Society of Professional Women student chapter. Locally, Graham was instrumental to bringing Camp Invention, a week-long summer day camp focused on science and innovation, to the North Country. She also served from 2000 to 2003 as a board member of Renewal House.

Graham is a member of the Academy of Management, the American Association of University Women, the American Sociological Association, the Labor and Employment Relations Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management.

She earned her Ph.D. in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University. Prior to earning her doctorate, Graham worked as a certified public accountant and for several members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
