CANTON -- The Canton Area Zonta Club recently awarded 2014 scholarships.

Noelle Carbone, a June graduate of Gouverneur High School, received a $450 Gwen Putnam Scholarship, presented to a graduating senior with a distinguished academic record, according to Canton Zonta. The scholarship is given in memory of a deceased Zonta Club member.

The winner of the 2014 $450 Millie Post Scholarship, awarded in memory a deceased Zonta member, was presented to Rachel “Nikki” Zeitzmann, a graduate of Massena Central School, who demonstrated strong leadership skills and dedication to service throughout her high school career, Canton Zonta said.

The Jean M. Coons Scholarship is awarded every spring to a high school junior or senior who has an outstanding record of community service, the club said. Allison Fobare, a June graduate of Madrid Waddington School, is the winner of this year’s $450 scholarship.

Sarah Shipman, a single mom who is a full-time student at SUNY Canton, received a $500 2014 Canton College Scholarship, given in memory of two deceased Zonta Club members, Mae LaBrake and Katherine Schwarkoff, the club said.

"The Canton Area Zonta Club congratulates its 2014 winners and urges area young women and men to consider applying in the spring for the 2015 round of awards," the club said in a news release.
