Four St. Lawrence County residents awarded Shirley J. Eagles Memorial Scholarships from SeaComm

SeaComm Federal Credit Union recently awarded four St. Lawrence County students with the Shirley J. Eagles Memorial Scholarships.

Cheyne Voss, Norwood; Shania Muncil, Oswegatchie; Alisabeth Furnace, Norfolk; and Marissa Paradis, Potsdam each received a $500 scholarship.

Voss is the daughter of Robert and Meaghan Voss. She graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School as salutatorian of her class with a grade point average of 94.22.

During her high school career she participated in numerous volunteer activities through Key Club, such as bell ringing for the Salvation Army, working local events like the Norwood Regatta, PAL, free movie days and more.

She also offered her knowledge of algebra and geometry to others, serving as a math tutor.

A member of the National Honor Society, Voss received the Leadership Scholarship from Clarkson University, where she will be attending in the fall to study environmental engineering.

Muncil is the daughter of Robert and Tina Muncil. She is a graduate of Clifton-Fine Central School.

She completed her high school career with a 99.38 GPA and earned a regents diploma with advanced designation.

Muncil worked at the Wanakena General Store and the Packbasket Adventures Adirondack lodge.

She was selected as an Augsbury/North Country Scholar.

She will be attending St. Lawrence University in the fall, studying English.

Furnace is the daughter of Lynn and Lisa Furnace of Norfolk.

A graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central School, she completed her high school years with a 96.68 GPA and garnered valedictorian of her class.

Active in her community, she served meals at the Knights of Columbus and took on odd jobs and yard work for neighbors.

Furnace is also the recipient of several awards, including the Augsbury/North Country Scholar, Academic All Northern, Academic Excellence Award and Student of the Month.

She has been accepted at LeMoyne College and will be studying biology.

Paradis, daughter of Roger Paradis and Anita Sochia, graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School with a grade point average of 89.98.

Being a volunteer filled Paradis’s time through Helping Hands, AMVETS dinner and food delivery and a volunteer server for local senior citizens.

She also worked with Martz Communications Group and as a counselor through the Parishville Rec Park.

She was the recipient of several awards, including Academic All Northern, Academic Excellence and the NYSPHSAA Scholar/Athlete Team Award.

She has been accepted at Onondaga Community College and will study business administration.

SeaComm Shirley J. Eagles scholarships are awarded each year to college bound students in memory of long time SeaComm employee Shirley Eagles, who lost her life in a tragic car accident in 2004.

Winners are selected based on a variety of criteria, including academics, volunteer service, scholastic awards and financial need.
