Joan Bissell, formerly of Waddington, recently achieved board certification as a specialist in renal nutrition.

This certification allows her to use the suffix RD, CSR.

In order to be certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) a registered dietitian must meet specialty practice requirements and pass a national exam.

Certified specialists work with adults and children with acute or chronic renal disease or failure, under treatment for kidney transplantation, dialysis, or other treatments in a medical facility or at home, according to a press release.
