Craft Beer Cellar of Massachusetts, co-owned by Kate Baker, has been named as one of 150 retail locations to take part in a beer fundraiser.
Baker is a former Potsdam resident and the daughter of current Potsdam resident Betsy Baker. She graduated from Potsdam High School in 1987 and she and Suzanne Schalow opened the craft beer store in Nov. 2010.
The sale of several gift baskets of beer will help the monks of The Abbey of Saint Sixtus of Westvleteren raise money to assist in the restoration of their monastery.
The honor included the chance to import Westvleteren 12 beer, which was sold to raise money for the monastery.
The beer received as part of the honor was raffled off Friday, Dec. 7. Each raffle winner was able to purchase a gift basket with four beers and two tasting glasses for $85. The first batch of cases was sold by a lottery to those signed up in advance, with an additional 80 baskets sold to those who signed up the day of the raffle.
