Former Pierrepont resident promoted to rank of brigadier general in the US Air Force

Colonel Lee Ann Bennett, formerly of Pierrepont, was recently promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the US Air Force.

Bennett is the mobilization assistant to the commander, 25th Air Force, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas.

She is the daughter of Lawrence and Sally Tupper.

She attended Canton Central School, before marrying Ken Bennett and giving birth to daughters Lindsey and Alyssa.

She graduated from Siena College in 1988 with a degree in mathematics. She also holds a master of science degree in biology and physiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

She earned her commission through the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Reserve Officer Training Corps Program in 1988, where she was a distinguished graduate, according to the Air Force Personnel Center website.

She served on active duty from February 1989 until September 1995, the website says.

In September 1996, she joined the Air Force Reserve, and has served as an individual mobilization augmentee and a traditional reservist at numerous Air Force and joint organizations.

Bennett has been honored with Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

She has also earned the AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Organizational Excellence Award with oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with hourglass and Mobilization Device.

She was promoted to brigadier general Dec. 15, 2015, with a ceremony held Jan. 15, attended by her family.

She was promoted to her prior position of colonel June 5, 2007.
