Eleven St. Lawrence County residents to enroll in St. Lawrence University Augsbury/North Country Scholarship program

CANTON -- Eleven local high school students will enroll in the Class of 2021 at St. Lawrence University as part of the Augsbury/North Country Scholarship program.

Initiated in 1974, the program recognizes academic and co-curricular leadership among designated students at 89 New York and 17 Canadian high schools in Ontario and Quebec. Guidance counselors from participating high schools have the opportunity to nominate up to two candidates for the award.

Students selected as Augsbury/North Country Scholars are awarded a merit scholarship of $27,000 per-year for four years, should they decide to enroll at St. Lawrence.

These local students are among this year’s North Country Scholars:

• Meaghan A. Matthews, Gouverneur High School

• Nathaniel P. Plumley, Madrid Waddington Central School

• Amber P. Stickney, Norwood-Norfolk Central School

• Haley J. Whitmarsh, Morristown Central School

• Hunter M. Dewey, Norwood-Norfolk Central School

• Chad E. Kerr, Clifton-Fine Central School

• Tianna M. Whitmarsh, Hugh C. Williams High School

• Desirae R. Roberts, Harrisville Central School
