Eight St. Lawrence County residents earn SeaComm Federal Credit Union scholarships

SeaComm Federal Credit Union recently awarded eight students with the Shirley J. Eagles Memorial scholarships. They include Massena residents Megan Wells, Baylee Carroll and Robin Boudreau, Allison Fobare of Waddington, Emily Pinckney of Canton, Eric Legacy of Chateaugay, Dominique Jacobs of Hogansburg and Hannah Seguin of Norfolk.

Each received $500.

Wells, daughter of Kenneth and Patricia Wells, graduated from Massena Central High School with a grade point average of 97.04. Ranking top five in her class of over 200, she received several scholarships, including the Presidential Scholarship for Union College, Amvets, Union College and Alcoa Sons and Daughters scholarships. She has been a student teacher for several years at the Tap-to-Toe Studio of Dance, as well as putting in several hours as a lifeguard during summer break. She has been accepted at Union College in Schenectady where she will study biology and business administration.

Carroll, daughter of Thomas and Alesia Carroll, is a graduate of Massena Central High School with a 92 GPA. She volunteers her time as a vacation Bible school counselor, a lifeguard for the school and a swim instructor. Beyond receiving the SeaComm Shirley Eagles Scholarship, she received the Massena Fire Queen Scholarship. She has been accepted to attend Simmons College in Boston Massachusetts, where she will study dietetics and nutrition.

Boudreau, daughter of Joseph and Anne Boudreau, graduated from Massena Central High School with a grade point average of 92.04. She was a member of National Honor and Spanish Honor societies. She was active in school sports, receiving Section X All-Academic Awards throughout her high school career and the Section X Outstanding Sportsmanship Award for winter 2013-14. Shen volunteers time to her church, St. Vincent de Paul and Massena Ecumenical Vacation Bible School. She will attend Utica College in the fall, majoring in child psychology.

Fobare, daughter of John and Michelle Fobare, completed her high school studies at Madrid-Waddington Central High School with a 92.73 GPA. During her high school career, she spent time working on her family'sfarm and participating in the St. Lawrence County Dairy Princess Program. She is the recipient of the Achievement Award II, Alumni Family and Clarkson scholarships. She has been accepted to Clarkson University where she will study biology and physical therapy.

Pinckney, daughter of Michael and Nancy Pinckney, graduated from Canton Central High School with a grade point average of 92.83. She has volunteered at several organizations, including St. Mary’s Church, where she helped with dinners and vacation Bible school. She also helped at the Houli basketball and soccer camps. She received the Founder’s Scholarship from Utica College, where she will go in the fall and study occupational therapy.

Legacy, son of Kevin and Mary Legacy, is a graduate of Chateaugay Central School with a grade point average of 97.85. A member of the National Honor Society, he was one of the top science students in his school. He was a member of the Envirothon and Science Olympiad teams, which went on to the state level. He received several awards, including the Clarkson Leadership, Xerox and the Rensselaer Medal awards. He participated in concert, jazz and marching bands. He will attend Clarkson University.

Jacobs, daughter of Jarrod Jacobs and Valerie Dishaw, graduated from Salmon River Central with a GPA of 95.0. During her high school career, she volunteered for the elementary after school program, helping children with homework and organizing activities. She is the recipient of the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholars award and will attend SUNY Potsdam in the fall.

Sequin, daughter of Norman and Lisa Sequin, completed her high school studies at Norwood-Norfolk Central with a 90.86 grade point average. A member of Senior High National Honor Society, Hannah was also active in basketball, soccer and track and field. Job shadowing through Allied Health Program, she will go to North Country Community College in the fall for the nursing program.
