Timothy E. Rapczynski of Colton was recently chosen as a recipient of the Skookum Award by Western New England University's Alumni Association.
The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors, including academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence."
Rapczynski was one of 15 students to receive an award at the ceremony.
Majoring in electrical engineering with a concentration in green engineering and a minor in sustainability, Tim has maintained a position on the president's list every semester, is a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, and Omicron Kappa Delta leadership honor society. He is president of the Outing Club, and co-founder of the Divest Western New England Committee.
After graduation, Tim is planning a through-hike of the “Long Trail” totaling 270 miles from the Vermont/Massachusetts border to the Vermont/Canadian boarder.
