Clarkson VP for external affairs elected as VP of the board of directors at Adirondack North Country Association

Clarkson University Vice President for External Affairs Kelly O. Chezum was recently elected as vice president of the board of directors at the Adirondack North Country Association.

The ANCA is an independent, not-for-profit organization “working to strengthen key sectors of the economy in the Adirondack North Country,” according to a press release from Clarkson.

“This is an exciting time to be a part of a larger vision for accelerating positive changes happening across the region in local food production, clean energy, a thriving arts scene, tourism and support for locally owned businesses,” said Chezum.

Since incorporation in 1955, ANCA has developed and managed programs across all 14 counties in Northern New York, successfully “investing” millions of dollars from federal and state grants, as well as private funding, to support community economic development across the region.

Chezum has served as Clarkson University's vice president for external relations since 2009, leading the school's “integrated marketing communications and long-range planning” activities, according to the release.

She has also served as assistant secretary of the board of trustees since 2003.

She joined the Clarkson staff in 1999 and has held positions as director of corporate and foundation relations, assistant to the president for strategic advancement, and division head for marketing and external relations.

She is a member of the board of directors of the Adirondack North Country Association, a member of the public participation and Adirondack work groups for the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, and co-chair of the Adirondack Initiative for Wired Work.

She is also past president of the Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley board of directors.

Chezum received her doctoral degree in law and policy from Northeastern University, her MBA from Clarkson, and her bachelor of science in business administration and communication from Carroll University.

She resides in Canton with her husband, Brian, and son, Cade.
