Brian Hauser was recently appointed assistant professor of film at Clarkson University.

He received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Ohio State University, where he graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa. He also received his master of arts degree and Ph.D. in English from The Ohio State University.

Before coming to Clarkson, he taught literature and film-related studies at Ohio State and Union College. He also taught a seminar at Clarkson, “The United States of Amusement,” along with a literature class and a screenwriting workshop.

His dissertation explores the connection between cultural trauma and the supernatural or mysterious in literature and film. He continues to examine that theme in his scholarly articles and presentations, as well as through creative non-fiction and film. Two of his recent screenplays have earned multiple honors.

His feature-length work, Cult Flick, won the 2010 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival Screenwriting Competition and was a finalist in the 2010 Fantastic Planet: Sydney International Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Festival. It also was a quarter-finalist in the 2010 Champion Screenwriting Competition. The Curfew, a short-film screenplay, also received multiple honors, including being selected as a finalist in the 2010 Fantastic Planet: Sydney International Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Festival.

Hauser has received a variety of honors including the 2007 PCAS Ray & Pat Browne Award for Best Graduate Student Conference Paper and 2006 winner of the OSU Graduate School Graduate Associate Teaching Award.

He is a member of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, the University Film and Video Association, Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa.
