Clarkson University names interim dean of their graduate school

Kerop Janoyan was recently named interim dean of the graduate school at Clarkson University.

Bringing more than14 years of experience in higher education to his new role, Janoyan most recently served as director of distance learning in the office of the provost and is also a professor of civil and environmental engineering.

Janoyan has been recognized numerous times for his excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, according to a press release from Clarkson.

He serves on numerous university and departmental committees, has received the Albert D. Merrill Award, and was inducted into Phalanx, Clarkson University’s highest honor society.

He was also elected by-fellow of Churchill College at Cambridge University, where he spent his sabbatical stay in 2009.

His research and development expertise covers a broad range of related topics with a strong focus on aspects of intelligent infrastructure systems, the release said.

He is the co-director of Clarkson's Center for the Evaluation of Clean Energy Technology Blade Testing Facility.

Janoyan has authored or co-authored more than 90 technical papers and reports and has presented his research at national and international conferences and workshops.

His research and development efforts have garnered nearly $4 million in funding and have been supported by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Federal Highway Administration, the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, as well as industry partners such as General Motors Powertrain, John Deere, General Electric, Cooper Crouse-Hinds, and others.

Janoyan is also the co-inventor on one United States Patent.

He has advised numerous graduate and undergraduate students who have received many honors and awards and started careers in the profession, including former graduate students who are now faculty members at U.S. universities, the release said.

Janoyan received his bachelor of science, master of science, engineer, and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles.

He is a registered professional engineer in California.
