POTSDAM -- Clarkson University Assistant Professor of Computer Science Yaoqing Liu and five students received travel grants from the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) to attend the College Immersion Program in Dallas, Texas, this fall.

The program provides a platform for college students to learn about real world computer network operations.

Sponsors include information technology companies and network service providers such as Google, Microsoft, Netflix and Comcast. Representatives attend the program to exchange technical ideas and share industrial experiences.

In addition to networking and learning opportunities for students, Liu said educators can benefit from the College Immersion Program as sponsors share real data for research, donate old equipment or offer research funds.
