POTSDAM -- Clarkson University’s Dr. John Huppertz will speak at the New York Capital Region chapter of the American Marketing Association (NYCRAMA) January luncheon, "Importance of Consumer Marketing in the $2.8 Trillion US Healthcare Market” on Jan. 19.

The meeting takes place at The Century House, 997 New Loudon Road, in Latham from 11:30 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.

Dr. Huppertz will explore how marketing research can improve the effectiveness of companies and nonprofits that are in the business of caring for others.

Every day, people make critical choices about their health care. They decide whether to go to the emergency room or an urgent care center. Does a patient choose a popular prescription medication or opt for natural healing methods? Would a local community hospital or a highly-regarded medical center work best for long-term treatments? Choice means marketing—and marketing research.

During this luncheon, Dr. Huppertz will discuss how marketing has affected healthcare in ways few people realize. Attendees can expect to understand the role of marketing and marketing research in a consumer-driven healthcare market. He will also explain the importance of research as a means to drive strategic business decisions.

Dr. Huppertz is associate professor and chair of the master of business administration program in healthcare management at the Capital Region Campus of Clarkson University. Before joining Clarkson, Dr. Huppertz was Managing Partner, Marketing and Research Services, at Eric Mower and Associates, where he conducted marketing research and served as a strategic marketing consultant for clients in a variety of industries.

His research has been published in leading marketing and healthcare journals such as Health Services Research, Journal of Healthcare Management, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Services Marketing, and Journal of Retailing. Dr. Huppertz is also visiting professor of marketing at IESEG School of Management at Lille Catholic University in Paris and Lille, France.

The cost to attend is $25 for AMA members and students; $35 for nonmembers. Registration is preferred via http://bit.ly/2hCUfpe. Walk-ins are welcome.
