Clarkson University Research Professor Dana M. Barry of the departments of chemical and biomolecular engineering and electrical and computer engineering had three books published by Springer in the past year.

Barry also serves as senior technical writer/editor at Clarkson’s Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP).

Her newest book is titled “Corrosion Control and Surface Finishing: Environmentally Friendly Approaches.” This book was published by Springer Japan in April.

It contains five major sections and “deals with surface finishing for corrosion prevention from the viewpoint of environmental friendliness,” according to a press release.

The five book sections include “Fundamentals of Corrosion and Surface Finishing for Corrosion Control,” “Environmental Regulations for Metallic Materials,” “Conventional Environmental Evaluation Processes for Surface Finishing,” “Novel Biological Environmental Evaluation Processes,” and “Environmentally Friendly Surface Finishing.”

"This textbook is great for students and for practical engineers /researchers in the industrial world as well as the academic one," said Barry.

"Consider it a very useful guide and resource for designing future innovative surface finishing /corrosion prevention technologies, etc., with a focus on environmental friendliness."

Barry’s other two publications this year are “STEM and ICT Education in Intelligent Environments,” published by Springer Switzerland in January, and “Biofilm and Materials Science,” published by Springer Switzerland in April 2015.

Her coeditor and coauthor for all three publications is Deputy President Professor Hideyuki Kanematsu of the National Institute of Technology, Suzuka College, in Japan.

Her work is published in the United States, Japan, England, Malaysia, China, India, and other countries.

In addition to her work at Clarkson, Barry serves as a professor and scientific board president for Ansted University and has been a visiting professor overseas numerous times.

She is also a chemistry ambassador for the American Chemical Society and serves as an officer for its Northern New York Section.

Her main collaborators are Professor Hideyuki Kanematsu, deputy president of the National Institute of Technology, Suzuka College, Japan, and Professor Roger Haw of Malaysia.
