Costel C. Darie was recently granted tenure and promoted from assistant professor to associate professor of chemistry and biomolecular science at Clarkson University.

Darie joined Clarkson in 2009. He received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in biochemistry at Cuza University in Romania, and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Freiburg in Germany. Darie also received a nursing degree at Vaslui County Hospital, Romania.

Before coming to Clarkson, Darie was a postdoctoral associate at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, a research scientist at the Skirball Institute at New York University, and an associate scientist at Mount Sinai in New York City.

His research interests focus on developing biomarker signatures for early detection of autism spectrum disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders and breast cancer.

They also include protein-protein interactions, cellular signaling, immunotherapy, mass spectrometry and proteomics.

Darie has coauthored more than 45 professional articles, 14 editorials, 18 book chapters, and two provisional patents, and has created a number of abstracts, posters and oral presentations.

He also co-edited, with Alisa Woods, a book titled “Advancements of Mass Spectrometry in Biomedical Research” with Springer.
