Clarkson University Professor David Mitlin was recently elected to the New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST) board of directors.
The consortium was created in 2010 to position New York State as a “global leader in energy storage technology,” including applications in transportation, grid storage and power electronics, according to a press release from the university.
NY-BEST serves as a resource to energy storage-related companies and organizations seeking assistance to grow their businesses. This includes access to financing, research capabilities, potential partners, technology developers, manufacturers, and other private sector and government resources, the release said.
Mitlin, who is a professor of both chemical and biomolecular engineering and mechanical and aeronautical engineering, has electrochemistry-related research interests that span both renewables and conventional energy topics.
He is currently focused on creation of new materials for sodium ion batteries, lithium ion batteries, electrochemical capacitors and for aggressive oil refining environments, the release said.
"I am delighted to have this opportunity to serve the New York State renewable energy storage community," Mitlin said.
