Pat Piperni was recently appointed associate professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering at Clarkson University.

Piperni received his bachelor of engineering degree with honors in mechanical engineering with an aeronautical option from McGill University, his master of applied science from the Institute for Aerospace Studies, University of Toronto, and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Montreal, according to a press release from Clarkson.

Before coming to this position at Clarkson, Piperni was project manager for Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) in the Advanced Design department at Bombardier Aerospace.

His responsibilities included leading the development of a company-wide MDO capability at Bombardier Aerospace and overseeing its application to aircraft design projects, the release said.

Prior to that, he was group leader for high-speed aerodynamics in Bombardier's Advanced Aerodynamics department. In that role he was responsible for the high-speed aerodynamic design of several Bombardier aircraft currently in service, while also being involved in research and development in computational fluid dynamics.

Piperni has written many articles for professional publications, including the AIAA Journal, the Journal of Aircraft, the Journal of Fluids and Structures, and the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Journal, the release said.

He is an associate fellow of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute (CASI), a member of the CASI Aircraft Design and Development Committee, and the AIAA MDO Technical Committee.
