Clarkson University Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Narutoshi Nakata was recently appointed an associate editor of the American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Structural Engineering.
As an associate editor, Nakata will manage the peer review process for papers about structural control and experimental methods for the next three years.
The journal has a history of reporting on fundamental knowledge that advances the state-of-the-art practice in structural engineering, according to a press release from Clarkson.
Nakata's research interests are in experimental methods in structural engineering, earthquake engineering and bridge engineering, smart structures, and structural dynamics.
He has worked on the development of hybrid simulation for structural systems, and plans to expand his research to multi-hazard, multi-physics hybrid simulation of large and complex systems for civil infrastructure.
Nakata has received external research funds that include more than $1.6 million from the National Science Foundation for three multi-year projects, the release said.
In 2010, he received the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award.
Before joining the Clarkson faculty in 2014, Nakata was an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.
He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
