POTSDAM -- Michael P. Griffin, director of news & digital content services at Clarkson University, has been elected to the board of directors of the Capital Region Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).
"I look forward to playing an active role in the many professional development and networking opportunities provided by PRSA," said Griffin. "The presence of Clarkson's new Capital Region Campus in Schenectady gives me a great opportunity to more fully participate in regional PRSA activities."
A communication veteran of more than 30 years, Griffin provides vision, strategic direction and leadership for internal and external communications. He is responsible for national and local media relations, internal communication, crisis communication and serves as Clarkson's primary spokesperson to regional and national news media. He leads and supervises the news & digital content team, planning, creating and executing the University's messages in both traditional and digital media.
"Education, service and social responsibility amplify Clarkson's world reach and presence," said Clarkson Vice President for External Relations Kelly O. Chezum. "As part of expanding the footprint of our academic offerings, Clarkson faculty and staff are connecting our campuses in the North Country and Capital Region in many exciting ways. Griffin joined Clarkson University in 1986 and previously served as webmaster, director of news services, associate director of university communications and assistant director of news services.
He is the secretary of the Potsdam Holiday Fund board of directors and serves on the board of directors of Canton-Potsdam Hospital. He is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Potsdam and a past director of the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and the St. Lawrence County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
A native of Scranton, Pa., Griffin received his master of science degree in management systems from Clarkson, his master of science in communication from Clarion University, and his bachelor of science degree in management from the University of Scranton.
He resides in Colton, with his wife, Nancy.
