POTSDAM -- Katharine Matthis was recently appointed clinical assistant professor of physician assistant studies at Clarkson University.
Matthis received dual bachelor of arts in degrees in biology and Spanish from Hamilton College and a bachelor of science degree in physician assistant sciences from Saint Francis College.
Before coming to this position at Clarkson University, Matthis provided family medicine for nearly 20 years as a physician assistant. She provided a full range of medical care to patients of all ages and economic backgrounds, taking medical histories, ordering/interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing their conditions and implementing treatment plans, follow-up care and referrals as indicated.
She has worked in healthcare facilities around Northern New York, including Community Health of the North Country in Gouverneur, where she provided primary pediatric services; Watkins Student Health Services in Potsdam, providing primary care services for SUNY Potsdam’s roughly 4,200 students; and at Edwards-Knox school-based health center in Edwards, where she was the sole medical provider for 530 students in pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. Prior to that, she worked with Canton Family Physicians.
She is certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and is a fellow in the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
