A Canton resident was recently named an All-American track runner at Heidelberg University in Lincoln, Neb.
Sophie Goobic, a senior recently earned the honor after finishing sixth at the NCAA Divison III indoor track championship. She completed the 5,000-meter run in 16:51.84.
A news release from Heidelberg University says Goobic is the school's third female indoor track and field member to make it to an NCAA championship. She was the only female to qualify in 2014.
"This has definitely been a rewarding season … It was a tough race, but I felt like I was prepared for it," Goobic said in a news release.
In November, Goobic, a biology major, became the first Heidelberg woman to become an All-American in cross country. She finished 27th at the meet, held in Hanover, Ind.
