POTSDAM -- Canton-Potsdam Hospital employees Alex Ashley, radiation therapist; Ed LaRose, purchasing stockroom clerk; and Patrick Lavin, chemical dependency counselor were recently honored as employees of the quarter.

Ashley’s began his employment with the hospital in the imaging department while completing his college internship and was hired as a radiation technologist upon graduation.

In 2010 he continued his education and earned his degree as a radiation therapist. Following degree completion, Ashley was hired in 2014 and is providing care to patients at the Center for Cancer Care.

Ashley is known for his positive, optimistic personality and compassion toward others, according to a press release from St. Lawrence Health System.

“Alex, without hesitation, is willing to go the extra mile and take on new challenges. He is always looking for ways to improve the patient experience,” said Mark Serago, director of the Center for Cancer Care.

LaRose was hired in 1999 as a central supply aide supporting patient care areas. He also joined the environmental services team, where he held the position of building attendant for five years, after which he accepted the purchasing stockroom clerk position in materials management.

His peers recognized him for his knowledge, his strong work ethic, and his commitment to quality, according to the release.

“Over ten years ago, Ed joined our staff and the purchasing department and has experienced first-hand the effects of our continuous product volume growth. He found a way to manage the volume and help improve the process to make sure receiving and delivery doesn’t miss a beat,” said Dan Dorothy, director of materials management.

“He is a creative, dedicated, high performer who sets the bar high for others to follow,” said Dorothy.

Lavin joined the Hospital in 2014 and serves as a chemical dependency counselor within the behavioral health program. His colleagues note his devotion to patient care and his willingness to provide coverage in other departments, including the detoxification inpatient unit, according to St. Lawrence Health System.

“Patrick is a scarce commodity in today’s job market. He exhibits old school work ethic, willingness to change, dedication, and enthusiasm,” said Adam Bullock, director of behavioral health.

“In Behavioral Health Services we change lives and it takes a certain personality to attract those seeking to change. Pat has one such personality. He delivers exceptional patient care and provides effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders,” said Bullock.

Ashley, LaRose, and Lavin celebrated with colleagues and peers. Each received a dish garden, chamber gift certificates, CPH gift shop certificates, a memento pin and a designated parking space for the next three months.

The employees were nominated by their peers.
