Canton, Norwood, Waddington and Winthrop residents honored at St. Lawrence University's Moving-Up Day.

CANTON -- Canton, Norwood, Waddington and Winthrop residents were honored at St. Lawrence University's Moving-Up Day.

Moving-Up Day celebrates student achievements in academic and co-curricular activities. It is a campus tradition dating from 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," to add trees to the campus landscape.

The St. Lawrence County students who were honored included:

• Lara C. Clemens , a member of the Class of 2014, of Canton. Clemens graduated from Hugh C. Williams Senior High School. She was presented with the Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Award at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Award is presented to a first- or second-year student who has excelled in the study of mathematics.

• Conner P. Eldridge, a member of the Class of 2013, of Winthrop. Eldridge graduated from St. Lawrence Central High School. He was presented with the Charbern Fund Scholarship - English at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Charbern Fund Scholarship recognizes members of the junior class who have demonstrated the highest degree of character and accomplishment in economics or English and have made major extracurricular contributions.

• Jillian H. Locke, a member of the Class of 2012, of Canton. Locke graduated from Hugh C. Williams Senior High School. She was presented with the William D. Mallam Senior History Major Award at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The William D. Mallam Senior History Major Award recognizes the outstanding senior major in history.

• Colin S. Loomis, a member of the Class of 2012, of Waddington. Loomis graduated from Madrid-Waddington Central School. He was presented with the Alpha Tau Omega Gerald W. Bridges Leadership Award, Joan M. Fuzak Drama Award, and William A. DeSantis Memorial Award at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Alpha Tau Omega George W. Bridges Leadership Award is presented to an Alpha Tau Omega brother who best demonstrates leadership abilities. The Joan M. • James A.C. Melville, a member of the Class of 2012, of Canton. Melville graduated from Hugh C. Williams Senior High School. He was presented with the Lotus A. Ingalls Memorial Journalism Award at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Lotus A. Ingalls Memorial Journalism Award is presented to the student who has made outstanding contributions to campus journalism.

• John A. Vari, a member of the Class of 2012, of Norwood. Vari graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School. He was presented with the Outstanding Leadership in Peer Mentoring at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Outstanding Leadership in Peer Mentoring Award recognizes outstanding service to the Munn Center for Rhetoric and Communication's staff and students.

• Chloe P. Whalen, a member of the Class of 2013, of Morristown. Whalen graduated from Morristown Central School. She was presented with the Charbern Fund Scholarship - Economics at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held April 28 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The Charbern Fund Scholarship recognizes members of the junior class who have demonstrated the highest degree of character and accomplishment in Economics or English and have made major extracurricular contributions.
