Atems appointed assistant professor at Clarkson

Bebonchu Atems has been appointed assistant professor of economics at Clarkson University.

He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland at College Park, and his master of arts and doctoral degrees from Kansas State University.

Before coming to Clarkson, Atems was an instructor and teaching assistant at Kansas State University and a math assistant at Prince George's Community College.

His research and teaching interests include macroeconomics, econometrics, international and development economics, money and banking, and urban and regional economics.

Atems' research uses various forms of nonlinearity to identify the response of the stock market and the economy to oil and macro shocks.

His other line of research examines the role that spatially localized patterns have on income distribution and growth dynamics.

He has co-written two working papers and is working on a third.

Another article has been submitted to the Review of Economics and Statistics.

Atems has participated in four presentations or workshops and has received several awards.

He is a member of the American Economic Association and the Missouri Valley Economics Association.
