POTSDAM -- Clarkson University assistant professor of digital arts & sciences Alex Lee's 3D animation will be featured in an exhibition next month at the Bronx Art Space.

The exhibition, "the real-fake.org.2.0," opens Nov. 19, with an opening reception from 4 to 7 p.m. and closes Saturday, Dec. 17.

The exhibition will present works by 51 post-digital media artists who use 3-D software to create work ranging from the still image to animation and interactive installation.

Lee's 3-D animation, "Soliloquy for Sagan," is a single-channel 3-D animation evoking concepts and representations found in astrophysics.

The animation suggests DNA, the atoms that comprise liquid water, light waves, Messier deep sky objects, and the range of objects that encompass the current range of understanding of our reality.

Dialogue for "Soliloquy for Sagan" is taken from The Varieties of Scientific Experience by Carl Sagan. Selected passages focus on the most poetic and noblest aspects of his writing.

Selected sound effects are from recordings of space taken by Voyager I and Voyager II space missions -- a program heralded by Sagan.

"Soliloquy for Sagan" is conceived as an homage to Sagan and the message he gave about humanity’s place within the cosmos. Lee worked on the piece during his residency at the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University in 2015.
