Norwood school destroyed The former Norwood Elementary School on Prospect Street was ravaged by fire early this morning. As Norwood firefighters were leaving the scene by mid-morning, the interior and western wall of the older portion of the structure were destroyed. The building had been converted for use as apartments and office space, and had at one point housed the STAR school disciplinary program. Several years ago, unauthorized tenants living in some of the apartments came to light after the firefighters responded to an alarm in the building. The school was sold more than a decade ago when the Norwood and Norfolk elementary schools were combined after an addition was constructed at Norwood-Norfolk Central School on NYS Hwy. 56.
