St. Lawrence County’s Cancer Services Program recently teamed up with local hospitals to “Go Blue” to promote colorectal cancer awareness month in March. Each hospital held an awareness day offering a variety of different activities. Dr. Ben Handelsman, a gastroenterologist on staff at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, was the key-note speaker at the county’s kick off event. His message stressed the importance of early detection and the importance of colorectal screenings. The take home message was that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable.
