Hundreds turned up at the Cranberry Lake Lodge for the second Cranberry Lake Cardboard boat race Saturday, July 16. Special 2-person teams of kids, and adults and kids paddled with all their mite on their homemade crafts of cardboard, duct tape and paint. A lot of effort was made to round the buoys in head winds and waves. One vessel turned turtle at the start but went on to complete the course after it was turned over. Only one vessel sunk to great applause from the crowd on shore. The lifeguard swam out and rescued the boat; the paddlers made it safely to shore. Photo by Vera LaRoe, Raymondville.
