Red Cross speaks in Canton

Cassandra Hamilton (right) and Rachael Simons (center) of the American Red Cross of Northern New York recently spoke to students at Canton Central School. Dorothy W. Lalonde (left), the health teacher for the district, offered the opportunity for Hamilton and Simons to present to her classes that day. The history of the Red Cross, its fundamental principles, mission, and key services were explained to 18 sixth graders, 21 seventh graders, and a total of 26 high school students. Hamilton and Simons also described the numerous ways the students could become volunteers for the organization like by becoming Scrubby Bear leaders, holding fundraising events, and starting a Red Cross Club.
