COLTON -- Zion Episcopal Church, 91 Main St., will hold its Advent and Christmas Eve Services on Dec. 16 and 24.

The church will present its annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m., with music from the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal, well-known carols, and unique, not so well-traveled carols.

The traditional service is designed for congregational singing.

There will be a pot-luck supper after provided by the congregation and all visitors are welcome to both the service and the pot-luck fellowship to follow.

A Full Eucharist and Candlelight Service, with congregational singing and music from the 1982 Episcopal Hymnal, will be held Monday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.

There will be an offering of pre-service instrumental music and special music during the Eucharist.

Dozens of surrounding lighted Memory trees as well as Zion’s lighted Rose Window will be part of the service. The Rev. Michael Schulenberg will be the celebrant.

Part of Zion’s mission’s is to tithe its pledge, plate and interest income on a monthly basis, said a press release from the church.

In the past few years more than $35,000 has been given to local organizations, individuals in need, the back pack program for Colton-Pierrepont, the Zion Scholarship for Colton Pierrepont, Helping Hands, Two Rivers Ecumenical Council, Renewal House, the new Grace House in Canton, and for national and international needs, the church said.

On the national level, giving is channeled through organizations like Doctors Without Borders and Episcopal Relief and Development. Through that fund, Zion has been able to help with Haiti, Hurricanes Sandy and Harvey and many others.

The church has also donated to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sandy Hook, Conn. St. John’s shares the neighboring property with Sandy Hook Elementary School. They are backyard neighbors without fences.
