HEUVELTON – A cast of 15 will present the original musical “Working in the North Country” on the stage of Pickens Hall April 28, 29 and 30.
The musical, written and directed by Karen Wells, is being produced under the auspices of the Grasse River Players and the Occupational Health Clinical Center of Northern NY, in conjunction with Workers’ Memorial Day.
The play is supported by Oot & Associates, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties Central Trades and Labor Council, the Workforce Development Institute and North Country Radio.
The cast includes men and women from the age of 16 and older. To see photos of the actors and actresses rehearsing for the upcoming performance, log on to the Grasse River Players Facebook page here.
The musical play dramatically addresses what is working and not working for the often unseen and vulnerable workforce in the North Country, whose labor supports the life and culture that many take for granted.
The story which will unfold on the Pickens Hall stage is based on several months of interviews with a variety of local workers and employers.
The April 28 and 29 performance are scheduled for 7 p.m. The April 30 show will start at 2 p.m.
Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door or online at www.pickenshall.com.
