MASSENA -- There will be a Worker's Memorial Day Celebration on April 27 at 1 p.m. at the intersection of North Main, Andrews and Phillips streets.
The event is sponsored by the Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Central Trades and Labor Council.
The event is to honor those who have been killed or injured while performing their jobs and to raise awareness of unsafe work conditions. They say 4,693 workers died on the job in 2011, an average of 13 workers per day. They say in the same year, New York ranked eighth in the United States for workplace fatalities with 206.
