POTSDAM – Potsdam High School will present its winter concert Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 in the auditorium.
The orchestra, directed by Jill Savage, will open with "Prelude from Brook Green Suite for String Orchestra" by Brisith favorite, Gustav Holst. Two well-know pieces follow: "A Charlie Brown Christmas" by Vince Guaraldi, and the "Farandole" (from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2) by Georges Bizet.
Tammy Madeja directs the Treble Choir, and they will perform a Hannukah song, "Bidi Bom" arranged by David Eddelmen, as well as an arrangement of "Let It Snow" and "Winter Wonderland."
Concert Band, under the direction of Theresa Witmer, will begin its program with a 19th century band original, "Glory and Triumph" from Hector Berlioz' Funeral and Triumphal Symphony. A 1995 composition by Robert W. Smith, "Where the Black Hawk Soars," follows. They will finish with the always-exciting "Russian Sailors' Dance" by Rheinhold Gliere.
The program concludes with Canta Sera Chamber Singers, which is singing in public for the first time since their prestigious invitational performance at the American Choral Directors Association conference in Rochester this past October. They'll be performing two pieces
from the Rochester concert, along with some favorite holiday songs, "White Christmas" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
The concert is free, and the public is invited.
