CANTON -- A weekend full of activities in celebration of winter will take place at St. Lawrence University beginning on Friday, Jan. 29.

The festivities kick off in earnest with the Winter Weekend Classic Men’s Hockey game between the Skating Saints and Colgate University. The game starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at Appleton Arena.

Fans can show their support for St. Lawrence University by helping to create an Appleton “Whiteout,” wearing articles of white clothing to the match. All those who come wearing white will be entered into a drawing to win prizes, including autographed pucks, a signed Saints practice jersey and a game-used stick signed by goaltender Kyle Hayton. Free St Lawrence Hockey rally towels also will be given out to the first 1,200 fans at the door, while the first 300 St. Lawrence students will receive their towels in the student section.

The game, which will be televised nationally in the U.S. on the American Sports Network (ASN) and in Canada on TSN2, coincides with the University’s annual Winter Weekend, a free community event sponsored by the North Country Ambassadors, a St. Lawrence student organization.

Families with children of all ages can enjoy the Winter Carnival from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, in St. Lawrence’s Sullivan Student Center. There will bounce houses, arts and crafts, snow sculptures, a photo booth and snacks. Parking is available at the Brewer Bookstore, Lot E on Park Street next to the bookstore, and Lot H across from Griffiths Arts Center on Romoda Drive.

In addition to the carnival, other free Winter Weekend events will include a bonfire in the Appleton Dirt Parking Lot before Friday night’s ice hockey game and an a cappella concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Sullivan Student Center’s Winston Room.

Other weekend athletic events at St. Lawrence include: women’s hockey against Clarkson University at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Appleton Arena; men’s squash against Franklin and Marshall College at noon on Saturday at the Robie Squash Courts; women’s squash versus Franklin and Marshall College at 1 p.m., on Saturday at the Robie Squash Courts; men’s and women’s swimming and diving versus Utica College at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Augsbury Pool and men’s hockey against Cornell University at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Appleton Arena
