About the Crane Concerto Competition winners:

Cameron Hewes, clarinet, is currently a senior in Julianne Kirk Doyle's studio at The Crane School of Music, majoring in music performance. During his time at Crane, he has performed in the Symphony Orchestra, the Crane Wind Ensemble, the Crane Concert Band, the Contemporary Ensemble, the Crane Opera Ensemble and a variety of chamber music groups. This past summer, he doubled on saxophone as a member of the pit orchestra at the College Light Opera Company (CLOC) in Falmouth, Mass. As a youth, Hewes performed with the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble and the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as being named to the Massachusetts All State Orchestra and Band. He has performed in masterclasses for Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, Walter Seyfarth, John Bruce Yeh, Michael Lowenstern, Kenneth Grant and Deborah Chodacki. In addition to his musical studies, Hewes is also pursuing a studio art degree at SUNY Potsdam.

Kyle Peters, marimba, is a senior music education major at The Crane School of Music. Although a music education major, performance is a crucial role in Peter's development as an educator. Following his final semester at Crane, he will be pursuing his master's degree in percussion performance. He has been an active performer in various ensembles, both at home and in the North Country. Peters has been a member of the Crane Wind Ensemble and the Crane Symphony Orchestra for three years. He has also played with the Orchestra of Northern New York, the Northern Symphonic Winds and the New York Wind Symphony. Peters has been a featured performer in both the Crane Wind Ensemble and Crane Percussion Ensemble. While at Crane, he has also been a member of a percussion quartet, which has given performances and clinics at the New York State Band Directors Association symposium, as well as the New York State School Music Association Winter Conference.
