Gingerbread workshop

CANTON: Annual gingerbread workshop, 10 a.m.-noon, TAUNY, Traditional Arts in Upstate New York, 53 Main St.; led by award-winning gingerbread builder Sue Wilder; will include instruction, inspiration, and all materials (including a sparkling array of candies and decorations); participants can work individually or in small groups (up to 4 people) and will bring home decorated gingerbread house; no minimum age to participate, but children must be supervised; cost for this workshop is $30, or $25 for TAUNY Friends (per house); pre-registration required by signing up online at tauny.org or calling 315-386-4289; made possible by underwriting support from the Wilder and Albert Families.

Amvets 5k

HEUVELTON: Amvets Salute To Veterans 5k Run/Walk to benefit Wounded Warriors Outdoor Adventure Programs, from Post 1997, 60 State St. Registration starts 8:45 a.m., opening ceremony 9:15, runners start at 9:30, walkers to follow. $15 donation includes T-shirt.

Hive wrapping

POTSDAM: Local Living Venture's Bees & Beekeeping group, offering a workshop on techniques for "Wrapping Your Hives for Winter," along with an optional session of touring a Slovenian-style bee house, to follow; beekeeper Luke Martin will host the first session 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Martin's Needham Road Farm Stand outside of Potsdam; then caravan to the home of beekeeper Sandy von Allmen in Norfolk, to tour her Slovenian hive set-up; protective bee head gear or more is suggested; $17 general public, $10 Bee Group Member, $30 for a couple, $7 student donations; reservations: LocalLivingVenture@gmail.com, 315-347-4223.
