Harvest Days

MADRID: 28th Annual Old Fashioned Harvest Days, St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum, 1755 State Highway 345; antique cars, trucks and tractors will be on display, there will be a flea market, kids pedal tractor pull and races, horse and tractor pulls, draft pony log skidding, chicken barbecue and tours of the maple sugar house, the 1850 one-room schoolhouse, 1850 log cabin reconstruction, Civil War encampment, shoe repair shop, 1920s gas station and other buildings onsite, more; 9:30 a.m. Blacksmith shop dedication; 10-11 a.m. Corn binding, chopping, threshing oats; 10-10:30 a.m. Haflinger (draft pony) log skidding; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Antique auto and truck exhibit; 10:30 a.m. Draft horse log skidding; 11 a.m.-noon Sawmill and shingle mill operating; 12:30 p.m. Tractor and horse parade; 1 p.m. Draft horse driving competition; 1-2 p.m. Corn binding, chopping, threshing oats; 1-2:30 p.m. Kids pedal tractor races; 2-3 p.m. Sawmill and shingle mill operating; 4:30-6 p.m. Dinner: ham, scalloped potatoes and more; 6:30 p.m. 50/50 and raffle winners announced; 6:30-8:30 p.m. Music by Steelin Country; $5 for 12 years old and older, and $3 after 3 p.m. on Saturday; children younger than 12 are admitted free; 315-344-7470, info@slpowermuseum.com.

First Saturday

POTSDAM: 14th annual First Saturday in the Village and Town of Potsdam event, noon-5 p.m., designed to increase awareness among college students of businesses and services available in the village and town; local businesses will have open houses, sales, etc.; sponsored by the campus life office at SUNY Potsdam and the office of student life and engagement at Clarkson University.

Art demos, supply swap

POTSDAM: SLC Arts hosting demos by local artists at 41 Elm St.; part of town-wide First Saturday events, noon-5 p.m.; free, open to all; Andrew Norrell of Hannawa Falls will demonstrate altering thrown clay forms for functional pottery and sculptural ceramics; Catherine LaPointe Vollmer of Potsdam will demonstrate pastel painting; art supply swap, community members can bring art supplies to donate, browse to swap, or bring cash for yard-sale style art supply purchases.
