Aired on WCKN on April 4 and 5 and 8 at 7 p.m., Peak Moment host Janaia Donaldson is joined by Rainey Hopewell, whose crazy idea has ended up feeding a neighborhood and creating community.
Hopewell and Margot Johnston planted vegetables in the parking strip in front of their house on Haultain Boulevard.
They offer them free for the taking, to anyone, anytime, with messages chalked on the sidewalk noting when particular veggies are ready to pick. Neighborhood children and adults are joining in to work on the garden, harvesting fun along with food, and even handing fresh-picked veggies to passersby.
American homeowners grow less than two percent of our own food. Garden season is just around the corner, so this Peak Moment program can start you thinking about space in a different way and cultivating the neighborhood as well..
The Peak Moment programs air every week at 7 pm on Monday and Tuesday on WCKN, Time Warner Channel 30. Peak Moment explores locally reliant living for challenging times. The programs are underwritten locally by The Center for Excellence in Communication at Clarkson University and the Seymour Family of Potsdam.
