CANTON -- Timothy Cryderman and Robert Wells will lead a roundtable discussion about the final stages of the War of 1812 on Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence County Historical Association at the Silas Wright House, 3 East Main St. This War of 1812 program is part of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, which was fought from 1812-1815. St. Lawrence County was one of the battlefields of the War of 1812.

Several crucial events in late 1814 and early 1815 defined the way the War of 1812 ended. Among these events were the Chesapeake Campaign (including the burning of the White House in Washington, DC and the Battle of Fort McHenry, Baltimore) in August and September of 1814; the Battle of Plattsburgh and Lake Champlain on September 11, 1814; and the Battle of New Orleans in January 1815.

Cryderman is an amateur historian and long-time member of both the Fort La Presentation Association and the Forsythe’s Rifles reenactment group. Wells is a St. Lawrence University Professor Emeritus and member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association’s Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee.
