WANAKENA — The Wanakena Historical Association is calling for entries for its Celebrate The Beauty of Winter 2017 Photo Contest.

Submitted images must be original unpublished photos taken of a winter scene. Images should be in high resolution (300 dpi or higher) digital format in jpeg, png, or tiff format. Each entrant may submit a maximum of three photos or images. Images will be displayed, and winners announced, as part of the Clifton-Fine White Out Weekend events.

All entries will be displayed at Otto’s Abode in Wanakena from Feb. 10 to March 1. The public can vote on their favorite pictures from Feb. 10-18. Winners will also be included in the next Wanakena Historical Association Newsletter. Prize winning photos (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) from the 2016 photo contest cannot be re-submitted.

Submitted images are considered the property of the Wanakena Historical Association (WHA), and may be used in future WHA publications, promotions or posted on the WHA Facebook page, with full credit to the photographer. The photographer does not forfeit copyrights.

Entries will be entered in two categories. Entries by adults (17 and older) and children (under 17) will be judged separately.

All entries from the same photographer may be emailed or burned onto a single CD/DVD. A maximum of three photos may be submitted by a photographer. Entries by different photographers must be submitted separately (e-mail or mail). A signed entry form must be completed for photos to be included in the contest.

Entry forms for the photo contest can be downloaded here.

Email entries or questions to wanakenaha@aol.com with subject line of “Photo Contest.”

Entry fees are $5 for one photo entered, or $10 for 3 photos. The entry fees will be redistributed as prize money. The entry form and fee must be received prior to the deadline to be included in the contest.

All submissions must be submitted no later than February 8, 2017.

Photo entries may be e-mailed as an attachment to wanakenaha@aol.com. Entry forms, entry fee and photos on CD/DVD can be mailed to WHA-Photo Contest, PO Box 73, Wanakena 13695.

Winners will be announced at Otto’s Abode in Wanakena at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18.

All money received from entry fees will be distributed to the ‘People’s Choice’ Beauty of Winter contest winners (minimum $50 first prize for adult and youth category). The planning committee continues to research additional prizes that may be donated by businesses.

In connection to the White Out Weekend, special events are planned in Wanakena Friday evening Feb. 17, with music, luminaries on the recently rebuilt iconic Wanakena footbridge, a photo booth and more.

Other events in Wanakena, Star Lake and Cranberry Lake village are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19. Log on to http://www.adkwow.com for more information.
