WADDINGTON -- The St. Lawrence River Walleye Association presents their annual Opening Day Derby from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 at the boat launch at Whitaker Park.
Entries are $50 per two-person team with an optional $20 per team for the “big fish” contest. There will also be a $5 restocking fee for non SLRWA members.
The derby has a new format for this year will be three fish 18”-23” and one fish over 23”. All fish over 23” must be able to be released; any dead fish will receive an 8 oz. penalty. Any fish between 18” and 23” can be kept by the fishermen and do not need to be released.
There will also be new boundaries this year, from the Prescott International Bridge to the top side of the Robert Moses Power Dam.
The scales open at noon.
The awards ceremony will be held at the JC River Run Bar & Grill at 3 p.m. Sign up at the bar on Friday, May 3 from 6-7:30 p.m.
