WADDINGTON – The 11th annual Waddington Sons Of The American Legion Ice Fishing Derby starts at sunup on Feb. 11.

This year’s derby promises to be better and bigger than ever with expanded boundaries and new prizes. Veteran anglers and novices alike are welcome.

$2,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs by the time fishing ends at 4 p.m. Those who land the 10 largest live northern pike share $500. The heaviest perch and heaviest walleye receive $50. There will be door prizes, 50/50s, and three $100 drawings. New this year is a $50 prize for the best decorated ice shack.

The entry fee is $25, kids under 16 free. All registered kids receive prizes.

Prizes will be awarded immediately following the derby at the Champion-Hobkirk American Legion Post 420 on Fenton Street, Waddington.

The boundaries have been expanded to include the St. Lawrence River bordering the town of Waddington, from Iroquois Dam to the Coles Creek marina, including all of the connecting waterways. The weigh-in station will be at the Waddington village docks at Whittaker Park, next to the ball fields.

People can pre-register at Waddington American Legion Post 420 on Fenton Street, Natures Trophies on Main Street, or on derby day at the Waddington Village Boat Launch next to the Whittaker Park ball fields
