COLTON – A trail work day at Higley Flow State Park is set for Saturday, Nov. 5 beginning at 9 a.m.

The Friends of Higley Flow State Park are asking volunteers for the trail work to sign in at the park office. There are no tolls to enter the park during this time of year.

Members of the St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University cross-country ski teams will be there to help. Everyone is welcome to help prepare the trails for winter, and enjoy a pleasant walk through the woods.

The Friends of Higley Flow State Park, Inc., is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a higher level of awareness, understanding, appreciation, and respect for Higley Flow State Park’s natural resources and activities.

The group sponsors many events at the park during the year, including its Century Bike Event in September and the Higley Hustle, a cross-country ski event that includes citizens races as well as an Empire State Games 10 km qualifier. The Higley Hustle is also part of the Colton Winter Festival. The friends have also subsidized the production of tree and bird guides, and its volunteers are also responsible for helping in the work of winter trail grooming and maintenance.

People interested in joining can send donations to The Friends of Higley Flow State Park, Inc., P.O. Box 249, Colton, NY 13625. Contributions are tax-deductible.

For more information regarding the Friends group, the trail day, or any other activities sponsored by the group, contact Tom French at 265-1351 or visit the website at www.higleyfriends.org.
