CRANBERRY LAKE -- Volunteers are needed to rake leaves, move picnic tables, clean out fireplaces, and plant shrubs at Cranberry Lake Campground for the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s “I Love My Park Day” on May 6.
“This is the second year Region 6 has participated in I Love My Park Day,” said DEC Region 6 Director Judy Drabicki, “It’s a great way for a family, individual or group of people to give back to the environment by helping with small cleanup projects while getting some exercise and fresh air and working together to achieve a common goal,” she said.
The Cranberry Lake area is one of the largest remote areas remaining in New York, with a minimum of encroachment on the lake and thousands of acres of unbroken forest lands to the south.
Cranberry Lake Campground offers a great base for hiking the numerous trails in the area. Volunteers are needed to rake leaves, move picnic tables, clean out fireplaces, and plant shrubs.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the campground entrance.
From the north, take Route 56 south from Potsdam. At the intersection with Route 3 turn right (west) and follow Route 3 to Cranberry Lake Village. Turn left onto Lone Pine Road, and the campground is one mile south.
