BRASHER FALLS -- Cleanup at the Walter Pratt Memorial Forest and Picnic Area in Brasher State Forest is set to take place Saturday, May 5 for the 2018 state Department of Environmental Conservation Region 6 “I Love My Park Day.”
Volunteers will be painting, picking up trash, cleaning out fire pits, raking leaves, removing broken picnic tables, cutting brush, mulching, and planting trees and flowers.
People of all ages are invited to meet at the sign-in booth for work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with work gloves, garden and yard tools, safety goggles, dusk masks and paint brushes.
The Walter Pratt Memorial Picnic Area is off of County Rte. 55 in the town of Brasher approximately 1.5 miles north of North Lawrence and 5 miles south of Brasher Ironworks. The Forest/Picnic Area is about half a mile after turning off of County Rte. 55.
Volunteers should sign up ahead of time at http://www.ptny.org/events/i-love-my-park-day. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear proper footwear and long pants. Sunscreen and insect repellant are recommended. A bagged lunch or snacks and water are appropriate.
Last year over 8,000 volunteers took part in more than 250 projects at 125 state parks, historic sites and public lands throughout the New York.
