HAMMOND -- A consort of three Viola de Gambas led by Alexander Raykov with vocalist Katerina Korlov will perform at The Iva Smith Memorial Gallery of Fine Art in South Hammond on July 26.
The gallery is the summer home to the artwork of Paul Saphier. It is located at 627 NYS Hwy. 37, 7.7 miles north of Knorrs in Redwood and 4.3 miles south of the Hammond flashing light.
The public is invited to an evening of fine art, Renaissance and Baroque music, food and fellowship at the gallery.
Raykov, Korolov, Kate Cushing and Tom Klenck will be interpreting the songs, suites and fantasias of early 17th Century composers Matthew Locke and Thomas Tomkins.
Saphier’s luminescent paintings and drawings created in the region, realized in egg tempera, pencil and pastel, gouache and watercolor, will be on display in the barn gallery. A pot luck supper and art opening will begin at 5:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair and a dish to pass.
At 7 p.m., the concert will begin, featuring period instruments.
The evening will close with a drawing for a free print by Saphier.
