POTSDAM -- The Community Performance Series will host guest artist Stuart McLean of The Vinyl Café on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Helen M. Hosmer Hall on SUNY Potsdam’s campus.
McLean is known as Canada’s “favorite storytelling” and this past year became a best-selling author.
The evening will feature new Dave and Morley stories, all the Vinyl Café regular features, and music from award-winning Ottawa-based singer Lynn Miles.
His hit radio show, The Vinyl Café, is now heard by 1.5 million people each week; it is broadcast on CBC Radio in Canada and on close to 100 public radio stations in the USA, including North Country Public Radio.
McLean’s characters and stories are both funny and poignant and convey the struggles and joys of everyday life.
The Vinyl Cafe stories are about Dave, owner of the second hand record store, Dave’s wife Morley, their two children, Sam and Stephanie, and assorted friends and neighbors. The motto of Dave's store - and of the radio show - is "We May Not Be Big, But We're Small.”
In 2012, The Vinyl Café was named the best audio podcast in Apple’s “Best of the Year” awards.
Lynn Miles is one of Canada’s most accomplished singer/songwriters. She is the winner of multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards and a Juno Award for Roots and Traditional Solo Album of the Year.
The Potsdam show is the only U.S. stop on the Vinyl Café’s two-week spring road tour.
